Personal Goals:
A personal goal I have this year is to have good time management skills. This is personal because I do not want to always focus on school work, and intend to make time for extra curriculars and hanging out with friends. In Bain’s work, I found a quote about interests, “The subjects didn’t just sit around expounding on the value of creativity. They found something that fascinated them, They became interested in problems they could solve, in a work they could do,” (page 203). I want to be able to manage my time in a way to allow what Bain is speaking of here. Making time to explore and find something that I find interesting in or out of school. Without having good time management, I would not be able to do this.
Academic Goals:
My long term academic goal is to graduate from college. This connects to Ungar’s Misperception article, when he talks about employers looking for college students, “More than three-quarters of our nation’s employers recommend that collegebound students pursue a ‘liberal education’,” (paragraph 7). I feel comfortable knowing that when I complete my goal of graduating, there will be plenty of job opportunities for me because I did receive an education in a liberal arts school. This is also why my goal is important to me, so I am able to get a job in an area I am interested in.
